Reporting an error
The whole proposition of this site is that the arithmetic can be checked, so a wrong number matters more here than it would elsewhere. If you find one, please say so.
Corrections are read by a person, not by an automated inbox or a third-party support desk. A report will never be ignored because it is small: a wrong strike rate, venue, player identity or season total can affect many connected pages. The full process is set out on the corrections page.
The most useful report contains three things:
- The page URL.
- The figure you believe is wrong, quoted exactly as it appears.
- What you believe it should be, and where you got that from.
You do not need all three. A message saying “this number looks wrong” with a link is still worth sending.
Corrections policy
Reported errors are checked against the underlying data rather than against another website. Figures here are computed by scripts rather than typed in, so a wrong number usually means either a fault in a calculation or a problem in the source feed. Both are fixable at the root, which corrects every page the error touched rather than only the one reported. The rules those scripts apply are published in full on sources and methodology.
Where a correction changes a published figure materially, the page is corrected and the change is noted. Where an error turns out to be a coverage limit rather than a mistake, the page is made clearer about that limit instead. Those limits are set out in full under where the coverage stops.
Identity errors are the most common real fault. Two cricketers who share a surname and a first initial are genuinely hard to tell apart in a data feed, and when the resolver gets it wrong one player’s record lands on another’s page. Those reports are especially welcome.
Other reasons to write
- Questions about how a figure was calculated. Every rule is published on sources and methodology, but ask if something there is not clear — or if you think a rule is wrong.
- A player missing from the directory.
- Anything broken, such as a page that will not load or a table that will not scroll.
- Requests to use the data. The short answer is usually yes, with attribution — the terms set out what that means.
- Questions about privacy, advertising or cookies. Every service that runs on these pages is listed on the privacy page.
- Anything about how the site is written and checked, which is set out in the editorial policy.
Response time
There is no guaranteed response time. Most genuine correction reports are reviewed as soon as practical, and larger data issues are fixed in the source pipeline before the affected pages are regenerated. Spam, link-placement pitches and unrelated commercial messages may not receive a reply.
