Perth again
The fifteenth Big Bash League ran from 14 December 2025 to 25 January 2026 in the format settled on two seasons earlier: 40 league matches, ten per side, and a four-team finals series. Attendance was 1,088,924, the highest since before the pandemic.
Perth Scorchers won seven of ten to finish first with a net run rate of 1.363, comfortably the best in the competition, then won the Qualifier and the Final at home. It was their sixth title in fifteen seasons. No other club has more than three; Sydney Sixers have three, and five clubs have one or two.
The highest chase
The match of the season was played early, on 19 December, when Perth Scorchers made 257 for 6 and Brisbane Heat chased it down, finishing on 258 for 2 with a ball remaining. It is the highest successful run chase in Big Bash League history and the highest aggregate of any match in the competition. Jack Wildermuth made 110 not out and Matt Renshaw a maiden Twenty20 hundred, both scoring their first centuries in the format in the same innings.
The season was full of that sort of batting. David Warner, in his last seasons as a Twenty20 player, made 130 not out and 110 not out in separate matches for Sydney Thunder; Steve Smith reached a hundred from 42 balls; Finn Allen made 466 runs for Perth, more than anyone; and Chris Lynn, playing for Adelaide Strikers, became the first man to reach 4,000 Big Bash League runs. Sam Harper of Melbourne Stars, who made his own maiden Twenty20 hundred, was named player of the tournament from a side that lost the Knockout.
Haris Rauf took 20 wickets for Melbourne Stars, the most of the season; Gurinder Sandhu took four wickets in an innings three times.
The finals
Perth Scorchers bowled Sydney Sixers out for 99 in the Qualifier at Perth Stadium, winning by 48 runs, Finn Allen taking the award. Hobart Hurricanes beat Melbourne Stars by three runs on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in a Knockout at Bellerive Oval reduced to ten overs a side. Sydney Sixers then made 198 for 8 in the Challenger at the Sydney Cricket Ground and bowled Hobart out for 141, Joel Davies taking the match award, to earn a return trip to Perth.
The final
Perth Stadium, 25 January 2026. Sydney Sixers batted first and were bowled out for 132 in the last over, David Payne taking the wickets that mattered and the match award. Perth Scorchers reached 133 for 4 in 17.3 overs.
It was Sydney Sixers' fifth defeat in a final, against three wins, and Perth's sixth title from nine finals. Sydney Thunder, who had reached the final the previous season, won two of ten and finished last.
