Six teams in a double round robin of thirty matches, then a four-team playoff: first played second in Qualifier 1, third played fourth in the Eliminator, and the loser of the Qualifier played the winner of the Eliminator for the second place in the final.

What happened

  • Six matches were played at Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida, the first time the competition was staged outside the Caribbean.
  • Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel played as Trinbago Knight Riders for the first time after the Knight Riders Group took control of the franchise.
  • Jamaica Tallawahs bowled Guyana Amazon Warriors out for 93 in the final and won by nine wickets with 43 balls to spare.
  • Guyana Amazon Warriors topped the group stage with seven wins from ten and lost their third final in four seasons.
  • Chris Lynn made 454 runs for Guyana, the most in the season; Dwayne Bravo took 21 wickets.
  • Andre Russell was named player of the tournament, and made 100 from 44 balls in Qualifier 2.

The season

Florida

The fourth season took the competition to the United States. Six matches were played at Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, an outer suburb of Fort Lauderdale with a purpose-built cricket ground and a large West Indian and South Asian population within driving distance. It was the first time the tournament had been played outside the Caribbean, and the American fixtures became a regular feature for the next three seasons.

The other change was cosmetic and permanent: Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, having won the previous title, played as Trinbago Knight Riders for the first time under their new owners.

Guyana's tenth season problem

Guyana Amazon Warriors were the best side of the group stage, winning seven of ten. St Lucia Zouks and Jamaica Tallawahs won six each, and the Knight Riders five. Chris Lynn made 454 runs for Guyana, more than anyone, and Dwayne Bravo took 21 wickets for the Knight Riders. Chris Gayle made 108 and Colin Munro 100 during the group stage.

Guyana beat Jamaica by four wickets in Qualifier 1 and went straight to the final. The Knight Riders beat St Lucia by five wickets in the Eliminator, chasing 165 with nine balls to spare. Jamaica then took the second place in the final by beating the Knight Riders in a rain-shortened Qualifier 2: Andre Russell made 100 from 44 balls in a total of 195 for 7, the Knight Riders were held to 110 for 7 from twelve overs, and the margin on Duckworth-Lewis was nineteen runs.

Basseterre, 7 August

The final was over quickly. Guyana were bowled out for 93, Imad Wasim taking the match award, and Jamaica reached 95 for 1 in 12.5 overs. It was a second title for the Tallawahs after 2013, and a third defeat in a final in four seasons for Guyana.

Attendance across the season was reported at 344,876, the highest to that point.
