Two ends of the table
The fifth season produced the widest spread the competition has seen. Trinbago Knight Riders won eight of their ten group matches. St Lucia, newly rebranded from Zouks to Stars under new ownership, lost all ten. No side before or since has gone through a Caribbean Premier League group stage without a win.
Between them, Jamaica Tallawahs won six, and Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots five each, which put the Patriots into the playoffs for the first time.
The season also produced the best bowling figures the tournament has recorded. Sohail Tanvir of Guyana took 5 for 3 against Barbados Tridents at Kensington Oval on 29 August; Barbados were bowled out for 59 chasing 159. Tanvir finished the season with 17 wickets, the most of any bowler. Chadwick Walton, also of Guyana, made 458 runs and was named player of the tournament.
Four matches at Tarouba
The whole playoff stage was played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, a ground that had been under construction for a decade and was still not finished. St Kitts and Nevis beat the Knight Riders by 38 runs in Qualifier 1, Chris Gayle making the difference, and went straight to the final. Guyana beat Jamaica in the Eliminator, chasing 169 with thirteen balls left, and then lost Qualifier 2 to the Knight Riders by six wickets.
Tarouba, 9 September
St Kitts and Nevis batted first in the final and made 135 for 6. The Knight Riders lost seven wickets chasing it and reached 136 for 7 with six balls to spare, Kevon Cooper making 29 not out from 14. Cooper took the match award.
It was the Knight Riders' second title in three seasons and the first under the name. For the Patriots, in their third season, it was a first final and, as it turned out, the closer of the two they would play in five years.
