Two innings on 10 August
The sixth season is best introduced by its third match. Trinbago Knight Riders, at home at the Queen's Park Oval, made 223 for 6. Jamaica Tallawahs chased it with three balls to spare, Andre Russell making 121 from 49 balls. It was the highest successful chase the competition had staged and it set the tone for a tournament in which four hundreds were made and Colin Munro scored 567 runs, more than anyone had managed in a season.
Two changes to the playing conditions arrived that year, both aimed at the sort of thing that irritates administrators rather than spectators. Teams that failed to bowl their overs in the allotted time had their net run rate docked. And in a Super Over, the batting order would be decided by a toss rather than by the order of the match itself. The Decision Review System was used for the last two matches only.
The Knight Riders again
Trinbago won seven group matches, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Jamaica six each, and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots five. Barbados Tridents, champions in 2014 and finalists in 2015, won two and finished last.
Guyana beat the Knight Riders by two wickets in Qualifier 1 at Providence, Shimron Hetmyer taking the award in a chase of 123 that went to the last over. The Patriots beat Jamaica by two wickets in the Eliminator, chasing 192 with a ball to spare, Anton Devcich taking the award. The Knight Riders then removed the Patriots in Qualifier 2 by twenty runs, Fawad Ahmed taking the award, and reached a second consecutive final.
Tarouba, 16 September
Guyana batted first and made 147 for 9. The Knight Riders lost two wickets and got there in 17.3 overs. Khary Pierre took the match award.
It was Trinbago's third title in four seasons and their second in succession, and a fourth defeat in a final in six seasons for Guyana Amazon Warriors, who had by then lost more finals than any other side had played. Fawad Ahmed's 22 wickets led the bowling and Munro, who had made 567 runs, was named player of the tournament.
