Mumbai Indians have won 15 of the 26 matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad, who entered the IPL in 2013. One of Mumbai's fifteen was a tie decided by a Super Over, at the Wankhede on 2 May 2019, when both sides finished on 162.
The fixture's best-known match is the one at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on 27 March 2024. Hyderabad made 277 for 3, at the time the largest total in the competition's history, Mumbai answered with 246 for 5, and the 523 runs in the match set a record aggregate for any Twenty20 league fixture — one Hyderabad themselves beat nineteen days later against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Thirty-eight sixes were hit here. Hyderabad won by 31 runs.
That match is not an isolated freak. The average first-innings total in this fixture was 148 across the twelve meetings between 2014 and 2019. Across the twelve since 2020 it is 194 — a 46-run shift, the sharpest in any pairing either side plays.

The Wankhede meeting of 29 April 2026 was the second of the fixture's run-fests: Mumbai made 243 for 5 and Hyderabad chased it in 18.4 overs, winning by six wickets. A successful chase of 244 is the largest either side has completed against the other by a distance of nearly 100 runs, and the IPL's highest team totals list shows how few chases of that size the competition has produced at all.
The lowest completed totals belong mostly to Mumbai: 87 all out at their own ground in April 2018 and 92 all out at Visakhapatnam in May 2016. Hyderabad's lowest is 96 all out at home in April 2019, in a match Mumbai won by 40 runs having made only 136 for 7 themselves.

Mumbai's home advantage is the whole of their lead. They are 7-3 at the Wankhede; the other sixteen matches split 8-8. Hyderabad have never won two consecutive matches at the Wankhede, and their three wins there came in 2018, 2022 and 2026.
The six neutral matches were spread across the two UAE seasons, one at Chepauk during the 2021 season and the 2016 fixture at Visakhapatnam, which Hyderabad used as a secondary home. Hyderabad's 85-run win in that game is the largest margin in the fixture.

The fixture has no knockout meetings in fourteen seasons, which for two sides who have between them won six titles is a notable absence.
The one-wicket game and the ten-wicket game
Two results sit at the edges of what the fixture has produced. At Hyderabad on 12 April 2018 the home side made 151 for 9 chasing Mumbai's 147 for 8 and won by one wicket — the narrowest result in the fixture. At Sharjah on 3 November 2020 Hyderabad chased 150 without losing a wicket, reaching 151 for 0 in 17.1 overs. A ten-wicket win is the only such margin in the fixture and one of the more emphatic in either franchise's record.
The other close finishes are Hyderabad's three-run win at the Wankhede in May 2022, defending 193, and the 2019 tie. Six matches in 26 have been decided by fewer than fifteen runs or by one wicket, so despite the recent scoring the fixture has not been short of tight endings.

Neither side has a meaningful preference, and the totals column above shows why: in the fixture's high-scoring era, chases of 244, 247 and 199 have all succeeded while a defence of 278 held. Mumbai's fifteenth win is the Super Over, which sits outside both columns.
Four things the tables do not carry:
- Mumbai have won five of the last seven, but Hyderabad have taken the most recent meeting and both of the fixture's 240-plus chases have involved them.
- Hyderabad have won a match in this fixture by 85 runs, by 31 runs twice, by ten wickets, by one wicket and by three runs. There is no consistent pattern to how they beat Mumbai.
- Neither side has ever taken both legs of a season more than once in succession. The longest run either has managed is three matches.
- Hyderabad have never lost a match in this fixture at Visakhapatnam or in Dubai, and never won one at Chepauk or Abu Dhabi.
Franchise context, and the Deccan question
Hyderabad's IPL history before 2013 belongs to Deccan Chargers, a separate franchise whose licence was terminated after the 2012 season. Mumbai played Deccan ten times and the results are not part of this fixture. Reading the two as continuous is a common error and would add a decade that does not belong here.

Sources and method
Results, dates, grounds, innings scores and margins are computed from this site's IPL season match lists for 2013 to 2026 and cross-checked against ESPNcricinfo scorecards. The March 2024 match at Hyderabad was verified separately: Hyderabad's 277 for 3, Mumbai's 246 for 5, the 31-run margin, the 523-run aggregate and the 38 sixes all come from that scorecard and the contemporary reports of it. Hyderabad's 277 was the highest total in the competition at the time and has since been passed by Hyderabad themselves.
Conventions. Deccan Chargers matches from 2008 to 2012 are excluded, as explained above. The tied match of May 2019 is credited to Mumbai because the Super Over decided it; readers separating ties can read the ledger as Mumbai 14, Hyderabad 11, one tied. Home allocation follows the designated host, which puts the 2016 Visakhapatnam match in Hyderabad's column in the results table but in the neutral row of the ledger, since it was a relocated fixture rather than their principal ground.
