Career
Rahul Dravid built his career on the parts of batting that do not photograph well: leaving the ball, playing late, occupying the crease for sessions at a time. He faced more deliveries than any other batter in Test history, a statistic that describes his value more precisely than any average.
He was at his most important away from home. Dravid scored heavily in England, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and the West Indies during an era when Indian batting abroad was fragile, and he was a central figure in several of the partnerships that produced India's most significant overseas results, including the 2001 Kolkata Test against Australia.
He also kept wicket in ODIs to allow India to play an extra batter, captained the side, and later coached India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title after a period developing the country's junior and A-team structures.
Highlights
- Faced more deliveries than any other batter in Test cricket history
- Shared a 376-run partnership with VVS Laxman in the 2001 Kolkata Test against Australia
- Scored Test centuries in every country that played Test cricket during his career
- Coached India to the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup title
Overview
What the figures show
Rahul Dravid has six IPL seasons behind him, 2008 through 2013, worth 2,174 runs at 115.5 per hundred balls. The best of the seasons was 2013 — 471 runs. No IPL innings has beaten the 75 scored in 2008. Fifty has been passed eleven times. Measured against the 182 batters here who have faced 300 IPL balls or more, 115.5 is slower than the 135.37 median by 19.9. Fours and sixes account for roughly 57% of the total — 268 and 28 of them.
The clubs, in order: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (2008–2010) and Rajasthan Royals (2011–2013). Most of the runs, 1,276 of them, came in the Rajasthan Royals years.

Where these figures come from
Sources for this profile
- IPL figures computed from ball-by-ball records of 1,243 IPL matches.

How the numbers are derived
- A wide is not a ball faced; a no ball is.
- Byes and leg byes are not charged to the bowler; wides and no balls are.
- Six kinds of dismissal are credited to a bowler. A run out is not one of them.
- An average is runs over dismissals, and is left blank rather than shown as infinite.
