Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants entered the Indian Premier League in the same season and played each other in their first match. On 28 March 2022 at the Wankhede, Lucknow made 158 for 6 and Gujarat chased 159 with two balls to spare, Mohammed Shami taking 3 for 25 and the match award in the first game either franchise had ever played.
Gujarat lead the fixture 5-3 across the eight meetings since. The sequence has been strikingly blocky: Gujarat won the first four, across 2022 and 2023; Lucknow won the next three, in 2024 and 2025; Gujarat won the most recent, in April 2026. No result in the fixture has ever come out of nowhere — each of the three runs began at the start of a season.
The Ekana Stadium in Lucknow has hosted four of the eight and they have split two apiece. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has hosted two, one each. The remaining two, both Gujarat wins, were played in Mumbai and Pune during the 2022 season, when the whole competition was staged in Maharashtra. In four and a half years neither side has established anything resembling a home advantage.

The first match either side played
There is no other fixture in the competition that opens two franchises' records at once, and it makes this pairing's first entry unusually easy to date. Both squads had been assembled at the 2022 auction, both were captained by players new to the job — Hardik Pandya at Gujarat, KL Rahul at Lucknow — and the Wankhede staged the result on the second day of the season.
Lucknow's 158 for 6 was built on Ayush Badoni's 54 from 41 and Deepak Hooda's 55 from 41. Gujarat's chase was slower and steadier and finished with two balls left. Hardik Pandya went on to lift the trophy nine weeks later; Lucknow reached the Eliminator.
The second 2022 meeting, at the MCA Stadium in Pune on 10 May, produced the most one-sided result of the eight. Gujarat made only 144 for 4 and Lucknow were bowled out for 82 in 13.5 overs, Rashid Khan taking 4 for 24 and Sai Kishore 2 for 7 from two overs. The 82 remains the lowest total in the record and the 62-run margin the widest.
Four, then three, then one
Gujarat's opening run of four covered two seasons and every kind of match: a two-ball chase, a 62-run rout, a seven-run defence of 135 at the Ekana, and the 227 for 2 in Ahmedabad in May 2023 that stands as their highest total in the fixture.
Lucknow's three in reply began with the only five-wicket haul the pairing has produced and ended with its only century. In between, in April 2025, they chased 181 at home with three balls left, Aiden Markram making 58 from 31.
Gujarat's win in April 2026 broke that run and restored their lead. Lucknow made 164 for 8 — Prasidh Krishna taking 4 for 28 — and Gujarat chased it with eight balls in hand, Jos Buttler scoring 60 from 37.

The 82 and the 235
The two extremes of the record are three seasons apart and neither is close to anything else in it.
Lucknow's 82 in Pune in 2022 is the only innings in the fixture under 128. Their 235 for 2 in Ahmedabad on 22 May 2025 is the only one above 227 and the only time either side has passed 210 while batting second has been out of the question — Gujarat replied with 202 for 9 and lost by 33, which is the highest losing total in the pairing.
That 2025 match belonged to Mitchell Marsh, whose 117 from 64 balls with ten fours and eight sixes is the only century the fixture has produced and the highest individual score by twenty-three runs. Will O'Rourke's 3 for 27 for Lucknow was the best of the bowling; Ayush Badoni took 2 for 4 from a single over.
The records for the Narendra Modi Stadium show it as the higher-scoring of the two regular venues in this fixture, which the totals bear out: the two matches there have produced 835 runs between them, and the four at the Ekana 1,224 across twice as many innings.
Yash Thakur's five for thirty
On 7 April 2024 at the Ekana, Lucknow made 163 for 5 and Gujarat were bowled out for 130 in 18.5 overs. Yash Thakur took 5 for 30 in 3.5 overs, the only five-wicket return in the fixture, and Krunal Pandya took 3 for 11 from his four.
It was Lucknow's first win in the pairing at the fifth attempt, and it began their run of three. Gujarat's 130 is their lowest total against Lucknow and the second lowest by either side.
The other four-wicket returns are Rashid Khan's 4 for 24 in Pune, Mohit Sharma's 4 for 29 in the 227-run match at Ahmedabad and Prasidh Krishna's 4 for 28 in Lucknow in 2026. Three of the four belong to Gujarat.

Shubman Gill has batted in all eight matches for 327 runs, more than twice the next-highest Gujarat aggregate, with 94, 63 and 60 among his scores and two match awards. He has not reached a hundred against Lucknow.
Nicholas Pooran's 172 runs came from 116 balls and contain seventeen sixes against five fours, which is the most lopsided boundary split of any batter in the fixture by some way. He has never passed 61 in it.
Wriddhiman Saha's 81 from 42 in the 227-run innings is the second-highest score in the record, and Mitchell Marsh has 128 runs from two innings — a return distorted entirely by the 117, since his other innings produced eleven.

Krunal Pandya has bowled twenty overs in this fixture for 106 runs, an economy of 5.30 that no other bowler with more than two appearances comes near. Six wickets from five innings is a modest return for that control, and it fits the role: Lucknow have used him to hold an end rather than to take the game away.
Rashid Khan has played all eight matches and taken nine wickets, the most in the record, though at 8.11 he has been more expensive here than against most opponents. Mohammed Shami's 6.07 across four innings is the only other economy rate under seven.
Avesh Khan has bowled in seven of the eight for Lucknow without once taking three wickets in an innings, which mirrors his figures against several of the other newer sides.
Where the fixture stands
Five wins to Gujarat and three to Lucknow, and the last five seasons have produced no repeat winner across a season boundary except within the two long runs. Both of those runs ended at the start of a season rather than in the middle of one.
The side batting first has won five of the eight, which is against the general trend in the competition, and three of those five defences were of totals under 165. Lucknow's two chases and Gujarat's one all came at the Ekana.
The scoring has not moved much. Six of the eight matches produced no total above 186; the two that did, in 2023 and 2025, produced 227 and 235 and both were won by more than fifty runs. This is not a fixture in which totals have crept upwards season by season, which makes it unlike most pairings of the same vintage.

Sources and method
All eight Gujarat Titans–Lucknow Super Giants matches from March 2022 to April 2026 were compiled from ball-by-ball scorecard data, with results, venues, margins, match awards and innings figures checked against ESPNcricinfo Statsguru and the official IPL archive. The record is complete to the end of the 2026 season.
Only meetings between these two are counted, and a player's runs sit with the team he represented at the time. Wickets exclude run-outs. Strike rates and economy rates are rounded, and where a bowler or batter has fewer than four innings the figures describe those appearances rather than measuring anything wider — Mitchell Marsh's average return here rests almost entirely on one innings.
"Lowest total" and "highest losing total" count only innings in which a side was bowled out or batted its full twenty overs. That 28 March 2022 was the first match played by either franchise is taken from the competition's own fixture records for that season.
