Kolkata Knight Riders vs Gujarat Titans: IPL H2H Record

Gujarat Titans have won four of the seven matches they have played against Kolkata Knight Riders since joining the competition in 2022. Kolkata have won two and one produced no result. It is one of the shortest rivalries in the league and, in one over at Ahmedabad, one of the most memorable.
That over is the reason most people can name a match in this fixture. On 9 April 2023, chasing 205 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Kolkata needed 29 off the final six balls. Umesh Yadav took a single off the first, leaving Rinku Singh 28 to get from five. He hit Yash Dayal for six off every one of them. Thirty-one runs came off the over, the most any side has taken from the twentieth to win a men's Twenty20 chase, and Kolkata won by three wickets.
Nothing else in the fixture has been that close. Of the six completed matches, four were decided by margins of eight runs or more, and the two most recent — Ahmedabad in April 2026 and Eden Gardens the following month — went in opposite directions by five wickets and 29 runs.

Kolkata's two wins are separated by three years and could not be less alike. The 2023 win at Ahmedabad came from a position no side has recovered from before or since. The 2026 win at Eden Gardens came from making 247 for 2, the highest total either has posted in the fixture, and still conceding 218.

The third Ahmedabad match, on 13 May 2024, was abandoned without a toss and appears in neither win column. Neither side has been able to make home advantage tell here: Gujarat have taken two of the three at Eden Gardens and only one of the two completed matches at their own ground. The DY Patil match of April 2022 was played in the season the league staged its entire group phase across four Maharashtra venues, so it was a neutral fixture in everything but the schedule.
What the Ahmedabad chase actually was
Gujarat made 204 for 4. Kolkata were seven down and needed 29 from the last over with Rinku Singh, who had not passed a first-class hundred at the time, on strike after the first ball. He faced five deliveries from Yash Dayal and hit each of them into the crowd — three of them full tosses, one a slower ball, the last a short delivery he cleared the field with. The forecast models put Kolkata below two per cent when the over began.
Only three men had hit five sixes in an over in the competition before him. What separates this one is that all five were needed: the earlier instances came in overs where the match was already decided or the target was smaller. The washout that settled two seasons

Rain and lightning at Ahmedabad on 13 May 2024 prevented a toss, let alone play. The captains shook hands before the cut-off for a five-over match. The single point each was enough to secure Kolkata a top-two finish, which they converted into their third title, and enough to end Gujarat's play-off hopes in the season after they had reached two finals in two attempts. The May 2026 meeting at Eden Gardens produced 465 runs across forty overs, more than double the aggregate of the first meeting in 2022. That first match at DY Patil is the only one in which neither side reached 160, and the only one in the fixture that resembled a contest between bat and ball rather than a scoring exercise.
Kolkata's 180 all out at Ahmedabad in April 2026 is the only completed innings either side has been bowled out in. Everything else in the fixture has run the full twenty overs or been chased down inside them.
Chasing has been the safer half

The split is even, but the manner is not. Both of Gujarat's chases were completed with overs remaining — 17.5 in 2023 and 19.4 in 2026 — while Kolkata's one successful pursuit took the full twenty and needed the last five balls to produce thirty runs. On the evidence of six completed matches, batting first has been the harder job here only when the first-innings total has fallen short of 200.
Four observations the tables leave out:
- Gujarat have never lost a match in this fixture in which they scored 180 or more. Kolkata have lost twice while doing so, in 2023 at Eden Gardens and in 2026 at Ahmedabad.
- Every one of the seven matches has been played in April or May and none has reached a play-off stage. The fixture has produced no knockout meeting despite both sides reaching finals in the period.
- Kolkata's two wins both came in seasons in which they went on to win the title or reach the top two; their four defeats all came in seasons in which they did not.
- The fixture's aggregate scoring has risen in every season it has been played except 2022. The 2026 Eden Gardens match was the highest-scoring of the seven by 58 runs.

Sources and method
Every result, date, ground and margin here was taken from this site's IPL season match lists for 2022 to 2026 and confirmed against the ESPNcricinfo scorecard for each match. The two matches that carry the fixture — the last over at Ahmedabad on 9 April 2023 and the abandonment at the same ground on 13 May 2024 — were checked separately against contemporaneous reports, including the sequence of the final over and the fact that no toss took place in 2024.
Conventions. Seven meetings are counted; six produced a result and one was abandoned. The abandoned match is excluded from the win columns, the venue splits and the scoring table, and is shown on its own because of what the shared point decided for both sides. The DY Patil match of 2022 is listed at its ground rather than allocated to either side as a home fixture, since the whole of that group stage was played at neutral Maharashtra venues.
Individual figures across this fixture — a leading run scorer or wicket taker over the six completed matches — are not published. The underlying dataset records results and innings totals rather than per-player detail, and on a six-match sample such an aggregate would in any case describe very little.
