Kolkata Knight Riders vs Punjab Kings: IPL H2H Record

Kolkata Knight Riders have won 21 of the 36 matches they have played against Punjab Kings, who have won 13. Two were washed out. That 21-13 margin understates how uneven the fixture has been in stretches: Kolkata won seven in a row between April 2014 and the 2016 season, and Punjab have won five of the last eight.
No other pair in the competition has produced both extremes of the chasing record. On 26 April 2024 at Eden Gardens, Punjab made 262 for 2 in 18.4 overs to overhaul Kolkata's 261 for 6 — the largest successful pursuit in the league's history. Twelve months later at Mullanpur, on 15 April 2025, Punjab were bowled out for 111 and still won, dismissing Kolkata for 95. Those are the two ends of what a Twenty20 total is worth, and both were set in this fixture.
It is also the only franchise pairing outside the 2008 season to have decided an IPL title. Kolkata beat Kings XI Punjab by three wickets at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on 1 June 2014, chasing 200 with three balls to spare after having already beaten the same side in Qualifier 1 four days earlier.

The first six seasons were level — six wins to five, and neither side ever won more than two consecutively. The 2014 to 2019 block is where the aggregate lead was built: Kolkata took eleven of fourteen, including a run of seven straight wins from the Cuttack game of May 2014 through to the Eden Gardens meeting of May 2016. Punjab's only three wins in that stretch came in Abu Dhabi in April 2014, at Mohali in May 2017 and at Eden Gardens in April 2018.
Since 2020 the fixture has swung back. Punjab have won five of the nine that produced a result, and both of Kolkata's most recent defeats — the 262 chase and the 111 defence — came in successive seasons.

Two of the fifteen Eden Gardens matches produced no result, which is why the column totals fall short there. Kolkata's home ground has hosted the fixture more often than every other venue combined bar Mohali, and they have won nine of the thirteen completed. Punjab's home record against Kolkata is the weaker of the two: across seven matches at the two Mohali grounds they have taken three, and their one match at the new Mullanpur ground is the 111 defence. Punjab finished top of the table that season with eleven wins from fourteen and lost to the same side twice inside five days. In Qualifier 1 they were held to 135 for 8 chasing 163. In the final they made 199 for 4 and Kolkata answered with 200 for 7 off 19.3 overs — at the time the highest successful chase in an IPL final. Those two matches are the only knockouts the pair have played. Every other meeting has been a league fixture.

The Eden Gardens match of April 2024 produced 523 runs in 38.4 overs and remains the highest aggregate the fixture has generated by a distance — the next best is the 459 at Indore in 2018. Kolkata's 261 for 6 would have won every other meeting the two sides have played and lost this one with eight balls to spare.
Below that, the pattern is that big scores here cluster in a handful of games rather than spreading across seasons. Only eight innings in 36 matches have passed 190, and three of them came in two matches — Indore in 2018 and Eden Gardens in 2024.

The Mullanpur match of April 2025 holds two of the lowest four totals in a single game. Punjab were dismissed for 111 in 15.3 overs and then bowled Kolkata out for 95 in 15.1, the smallest total any side has successfully defended in the competition. Kolkata's 79 for 1 at Durban in 2009 is not on this list because the innings was closed by rain after 9.2 overs with the side ahead on the Duckworth-Lewis line — a win, not a completed total.

Nine of the 34 completed matches finished inside ten runs or three wickets, and Kolkata have taken five of those nine. The tightest was 9 May 2015 at Eden Gardens: Punjab made 183 for 5 and Kolkata reached 184 for 9 off 19.5 overs, winning with a wicket standing and a ball to spare.
Four things the tables do not show:
- Kolkata have never lost consecutive matches to Punjab at Eden Gardens. Punjab's four wins there are spread across 2010, 2012, 2018 and 2024.
- Every one of Punjab's DLS-affected wins has come at a ground with a history of interrupted play — Eden Gardens in 2018 and Mohali in 2023 — while both of the fixture's washouts were also at Eden Gardens, in successive seasons.
- Kolkata's seven-match winning run from 2014 to 2016 spanned five different grounds, including a final and a qualifier, which makes it a genuine run of form rather than a home-ground artefact.
- The two matches at Mohali's older PCA Stadium and its renamed IS Bindra ground are counted together above; treating them separately, Punjab hold a 2-1 edge at the former and lose 2-1 at the latter.

Sources and method
Results, dates, grounds and margins were taken from this site's IPL season match lists for 2008 to 2026 and cross-checked against the ESPNcricinfo scorecard for each match. The two records that make the fixture notable — Punjab's 262 for 2 at Eden Gardens on 26 April 2024 and their 111 all out defended at Mullanpur on 15 April 2025 — were verified individually against contemporaneous match reports as well as the scorecards.
Conventions. Thirty-six meetings are counted; 34 produced a result and two were abandoned without one, both at Eden Gardens, in April 2025 and April 2026. Those two are excluded from every win column, every venue split and both scoring tables. The 2025 washout is recorded here without a first-innings figure because sources differ on whether Punjab finished on 201 for 4 or 201 for 5, and the 2026 abandonment produced no scoring detail we could confirm. Franchise continuity follows the league's own treatment: Kings XI Punjab and Punjab Kings are one side, so the aggregate covers the whole span. The two Mohali grounds are combined in the venue table and separated in the closing notes.
